Lessons Basketball taught me about Business...

When I was younger, I loved sports and played basketball. Growing up in the era of Michael Jordan, the Fab Five of Michigan, and other amazing players of the 90s, I learned valuable lessons about fundamentals.

Because I attended a predominantly Black and Latino school, I must admit that I was always overly confident that we would win games, just because..... so when we would go to a predominantly white school where the girls were a lot smaller than us and way less flashy, I just knew we had that game in the bag....

Until we were sent back on the bus with a rude awakening!!!

I quickly learned that just because a team didn't look as flashy or impressive as we did, it didn't mean they would lose. In fact, the teams that focused on the basics—layups, free throws, passing, and rebounding— they were the ones that often won the game.

This lesson is incredibly relevant to business today. Let me share with you how!

Understanding the Fundamentals in Business

In today's noisy business environment, everyone seems to have the "next big thing" or a new, better method. But the truth is, any business can succeed if it sticks to the fundamentals: people, process, product, and profit. If you've ever seen the show "The Profit" (one of my favorite business shows) Marcus Lemonis often talks about these pillars, and they remain true regardless of the latest trends or tools.

Here are the 4 Pillars....

  • People: Who is your audience and what do they want? Understanding your target audience is the first step to success. You need to know their needs, preferences, and pain points.

  • Product: What do you offer? Ensure that your product or service provides real value and solves a problem for your audience.

  • Process: How do you serve them? Streamlining your operations and ensuring you have efficient processes in place can make a huge difference in your business.

  • Profit: What value do you bring and how much do you charge? Your pricing should reflect the value you provide, ensuring that both you and your customers are satisfied.

7 Core Fundamentals of Business

Having spent 17 years in digital marketing and online business development, I've seen firsthand how the basics still work.

I personally take Mark Lemonis' 4 key Pillars and add 3 more that matter when it comes to getting your business to the market to make sales.

These are the 7 Key things that I do to ensure my business is ready and positioned for Profits and they will take you from concept to cashflow in your Business once you have these 7 things in place.

Let's talk about it.....

  • Irresistible Offer: Crafting an offer that your audience can't refuse. This involves understanding their needs and pain points and presenting a solution that delivers exceptional value. Your offer should be clear, compelling, and provide a strong incentive for your audience to take action. This could be in the form of discounts, bonuses, limited-time offers, or unique benefits that stand out from the competition.

  • Ideal Dream Client-Ready-to-Buy (RTB): An essential part of successful marketing is understanding the difference between your dream client and the regular target market. Your dream client is not just someone who fits your target demographic; they are ready-to-buy (RTB). These clients are actively seeking solutions and are prepared to make a purchase now.

  • Clarity of your RTB Client & Understanding their Customer Journey: I'll go more in depth about the RTB Client below but knowing who they are and the stages your customers go through, from awareness to purchase, is crucial. This journey includes how they discover your business, engage with your content, make purchasing decisions, and become repeat customers. Mapping out this journey helps you provide the right information at the right time, enhancing their experience and increasing conversions.

  • Lead Capture Pages: Attracting potential customers and grow an email list so you can begin building one of your greatest assets, direct access to your ideal clients. These pages are designed to collect contact information from visitors in exchange for valuable content, like an ebook or a free trial.

  • Email Marketing: Nurturing leads. Regularly engaging with your leads through email helps build trust and moves them closer to making a purchase. Combining a CRM with email marketing allows you to track customer interactions and send personalized messages based on their behavior and preferences.

  • Social Media Marketing: Leveraging platforms like Instagram. Consistent and strategic use of social media can increase brand awareness and drive traffic to your website.

  • Sales Pages: Converting leads into sales. These pages should clearly present your offer and persuade visitors to make a purchase.

Why focus on RTB clients?

  • Higher Conversion Rates: RTB clients are more likely to convert, as they have a clear need and are actively looking for a solution.

  • Shorter Sales Cycle: These clients are ready to make a decision, reducing the time and effort required to close a sale.

  • Increased Revenue: Targeting RTB clients can lead to higher immediate revenue and better cash flow for your business.

  • Better Client Relationships: RTB clients often become loyal customers because they have a pressing need that your product or service solves effectively.

Understanding and targeting RTB clients ensures that your marketing efforts are efficient and effective, leading to better business outcomes.

Next Steps:

Ask yourself:

  1. What do I offer?
  2. Who is my audience?
  3. How do I serve them?
  4. What product am I putting in front of them, and at what price point?
  5. Are my clients ready to buy?

Understanding these fundamentals will help you harness the basics needed to simply get started. Pulling in other softwares, tools, techniques and systems will only enhance what you've already established as a solid foundation for your business.

Leveraging the Basics of Instagram

One of the key fundamental tools that I've used in the past year that has produced six figures of extra income just by incorporating these fundamentals has been Instagram marketing.

This is a tool that I did not understand how to use until I had over 18,000 followers, which just so happened to grow by happenstance (like frfr, I got to 18k by mistake).

I had no idea how to leverage this platform properly. I was a Facebook girl, and I really do feel like I was naive on ways to leverage this system to get to where I am.

But now that I understand the basics...

  • It doesn't matter what the algorithm is doing.
  • It doesn't matter how many changes Instagram makes.
  • It doesn't matter what's going on with any other platforms.

I've learned how to successfully leverage this platform to do these 4 Core Things:

  • #1: Connect with my ideal audience
  • #2: Grow my ideal audience
  • #3: Engage my ideal audience
  • #4: and Convert my ideal audience
